NutritionWorks is an international public nutrition resource group comprised of a diverse mix of highly experienced international public nutritionists. Originally formed in 1999, NutritionWorks is now a team of five partners with a strong network of supporting associates.

ELDIS

ELDIS' Nutrition Resource Guide provides access to relevant, diverse and credible research and resources on nutrition. It focuses on the causes and consequences of malnutrition; nutrition specific interventions; nutrition sensitive interventions; and the political economy of undernutrition. It aims to inform those seeking to bring critical perspectives from development to the heart of the debates on nutrition.

Training module - Programming for health outcomes

Welcome to Programming for Nutrition Outcomes, a free open-access educational resource, supported by the Department for International Development. This Master's-level module has been designed to explore the complicated problem of undernutrition, highlight its multi-sectoral causes and identify potential programmatic solutions.

LIST - The lives saved tool

This computer-based tool allows users to set up and run multiple scenarios to look at the estimated impact of different intervention packages and coverage levels for their countries, states or districts. These scenarios, developed with the LiST tool, provide a structured format for program managers or ministry of health personnel to combine the best scientific information about effectiveness of interventions for maternal, neonatal and child health with information about cause of death and current coverage of interventions to inform their planning and decision-making, to help prioritize investments and evaluate existing programs. The LiST tool is meant to be used as part of the planning process—not as a replacement for planning.

Field Exchange: The ENN Magazine 

Field Exchange is a tri-annual magazine containing field articles, research and news pieces for those working in emergency nutrition and food security.

Nutrition Exchange 

Nutrition Exchange (formerly Field Exchange Digest) is an annual digested read of ENN's flagship publication, Field Exchange. About one quarter the size of a typical Field Exchange issue, it offers a snapshot of key articles that have featured in the last year or so. It also includes updated information on references, guidelines, tools and training.

Wash Plus weekly

This issue contains some of the most recent studies and resources that discuss the integration of WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) with nutrition. Included are a recent webinar on environmental enteropathy, an online tutorial about nutrition programming that has a WASH component, and studies on child height and open defecation. Another resource is the WASHplus online library of WASH and nutrition, which is still under development but contains the resources listed below as well as other recent studies and reports.

The study uses Kenya and Ethiopia as case studies, comparing the relative costs of late humanitarian response, early response, and building resilience to disasters.

Maternal and child undernutrition serie - Lancet

Maternal and child undernutrition was the subject of a Series of papers in The Lancet in 2008. Five years after the initial series, we re-evaluate the problems of maternal and child undernutrition and also examine the growing problems of overweight and obesity for women and children, and their consequences in low-income and middle-income countries. Many of these countries are said to have the double burden of malnutrition: continued stunting of growth and deficiencies of essential nutrients along with the emerging issue of obesity. We also assess national progress in nutrition programmes and international efforts toward previous recommendations. 

Under-nutrition and Water, sanitation and hygiene Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) play a fundamental role in improving nutritional outcomes. A successful global effort to tackle under-nutrition must include WASH.

How much international variation in child height can sanitation explain?

This publication explores the links between stunting and sanitation. It shows association between stunting and open defecation and presents this association as a potential explanation for higher stunting prevalences in Asia versus Africa.

Nutritional status of young children in Mumbai slums: a follow-up anthropometric study

More, Neena Shah, et al. "Cluster-randomised controlled trial of community mobilisation in Mumbai slums to improve care during pregnancy, delivery, postpartum and for the newborn." Trials 9.7 (2008).

The findings suggest to focus on the younger age group compared to the over 3 years old as the growth faltering is happening early on. This confirms previous research and the need to focus on the under 2 years old.

Aid for Nutrition: Can investments to scale up nutrition actions be accurately tracked?

Investments in aid to tackle the escalating challenge of undernutrition remain inadequate. Action Against Hunger has produced a major report calling for all major donors to disburse more overseas development assistance to programmes which treat undernutrition and address its underlying causes in countries where the need is greatest.

The New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition is a commitment by G-8 nations, African countries and private sector partners to lift 50 million people out of poverty over the next 10 years through inclusive and sustained agricultural growth. It responds to strong African commitments to promote and protect food security and nutrition – articulated in multiple settings since 2003 and validated by tremendous progress made in Africa since 2009. The New Alliance builds upon and will continue the progress made by G-8 nations since 2009 at the L’Aquila Summit, and offers a broad, inclusive and innovative path to strengthen food security and nutrition.

SUN - 18/03/2013 - European Commissioner Andris Piebalgs: ‘The SUN Movement gives us the leadership we need to make malnutrition a thing of the past’

The EU communication released Wednesday sets out the bloc’s three priorities on nutrition:

• Mobilize support and rally political commitments for nutrition at national and international levels.

• Help boost actions at the country level such as by helping develop national action plans for nutrition and increasing investments in effective interventions in countries with high burdens of undernutrition. These could include the provision of micronutrients such as iron supplements and therapeutic feeding.

• Widen knowledge on nutrition by investing in research and providing technical assistance.

HANCI

The Hunger and Nutrition Commitment Index (HANCI) ranks governments on their political commitment to tackling hunger and undernutrition. The index was created to provide greater transparency and public accountability by measuring what governments achieve, and where they fail, in addressing hunger and undernutrition.
