My research on IYC's malnutrition in urban slums

FAO Assessment of Nutritional Status in Urban Areas

Nutritional status of children under five years of age
Data from recent anthropometric surveys in selected countries in Africa and Asia were analyzed by urban or rural residence and by differing socio-economic groups where possible. In general, children under five years of age in urban areas are less underweight and stunted than children in rural areas. For some countries the prevalence of acute malnutrition (wasting) is nearly the same in urban and rural areas, while chronic malnutrition (stunting) and underweight tend to be higher in rural areas.

NGOs working in slums

Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action

The Program aims to reduce malnutrition in children in Mumbai’s slums. This model follows the cycle of prevention, early identification and treatment by improving feeding practices of young children amongst mothers and establishing Day Care Centres where severely malnourished children are treated.
It partners with the existing Govt Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) that runs Anganwadis which addresses malnutrition in children under 6 years.
